Multiple Responsibilities of Corporate Executives
Corporate executives do have a responsibility to make money for their companies. For publicly owned companies, this means that they must ?nd a way to maximize shareholder value. But it would be wrong to say that, without quali? cation, making as much money as possible is an executive’s only responsibility.
First of all, corporate executives have a duty to protect our natural environment and to not exploit human resources, particularly in lesser-developed countries. These poorer countries sometimes have poorly developed legal systems and laws that can be used unfairly by companies, even though the companies are actually operating within the limits of the law in that country. As an example, a pharmaceutical company should not be allowed to test new drugs on people in a poor country even though it is perfectly legal under that country’s laws. Corporate executives must take it upon themselves to ensure that it operates ethically in all countries and that the corporation does not exploit lax operating laws in underdeveloped parts of the world.
Secondly, a related responsibility of corporate executives is to make sure that the company re?ects a positive image to the rest of the world, thus giving stockholders and owners a sense of pride in being a part of that company. Most people do not want to be associated with a company that is seen as greedy or exploitive. If corporate executives focus solely on making as much money as possible, there can be a backlash against that company for appearing too materialistic and uncaring. Executives at multinational companies such as McDonald’s and Wal-Mart have recognized this problem in the past and have now become heavily involved in the communities in which their stores are located through charitable programs.
A third and also related responsibility of corporate executives is to ensure the long-term viability of their companies. Employees, as well as other stakeholders, need to know that the company executives are interested in building an enduring institution. A good example of this responsibility not being honored is that of the Enron Energy Company and Arthur Andersen bankruptcy and accounting scandal. In this case, corporate executives abdicated their responsibilities to both companies in order to maximize short-term pro?t and possibly their own bonuses and stock options.
Corporate executives do have a responsibility to make as much money as possible. But they also have the responsibility to do so in a manner that helps to protect the world’s environment and people, that re?ects a positive corporate image, and that will guarantee the long-term survival of the company.

Though there are all kinds of commercial ads to advocate girls to make up and make themselves look as beautiful as the models, most girls are educated that the real beauty is from inside instead of outside. So some of them are very proud of not making up and staying the way they are, but the new idea is that make up is a manner.
In the traditional view, make up is not a good girl will do, only for the bad girl who tries to seduce a man. What’s more, parents implant the idea to the girls that make up will make them look older. So most girls have the wrong idea about make up, some even feel shameful to talk about it.
Actually, in the modern society, make up is just a way of manner. But, the make up we talk about is light type. We need to shape our eyebrow and color our lips with light color, which makes us look tidy. Hair is also needed to clear up and the clothes we wear should be adjusted by different occasions.

In China, it has been admitted that the universities are in different level, the universities which are labeled with 985 are treated as the first level schools, the universities which are labeled with 211 are treated as the second level schools, the rest are in the third level. It is said that those tags will be cancelled so that all the colleges can be equal. In my opinion, it will work.
The first and second level universities are thought to be Chinese good schools, every students dream to enter into these schools. Once they are the members of these schools, they will be treated as the successful students who study so well. What’s more, when the companies recruit, they will think about the students from 985 and 211 universities. Even the tags are cancelled, people still hold their idea about the university, the different levels are still existing. It is hard to change people’s thoughts, and the good universities still attract the excellent students to come. So it is impossible for the colleges to be equal.

there are many arguments about the advantages and disadvantages of eamination.some people think eamination is the only best way to test how eaminees have mastered what they have studied and it is the only measurement for eaminers to select which persons they need.while, on the other hand, some object that eamination cant measure how the students have really studied.they say it can do nothing but burden the students.
as for me,i think for both eaminers and eaminees, the eamination can show what and how much the eaminees have mastered.the results of eaminations are just like mirrors for both eaminers and eaminees.
through eamination the eaminees can check their work and get aware of which aspects they have not done well,so that theyll make much improvement in their work.as far as eaminees are concerned, they can not only know how they have studied but also find out what they still unknown or what they havent mastered well.thus, they will be inspired to greater efforts to improve their studying method so as to make greater progress.of course too many eaminations are burbens to both eaminers and eaminees.
in sum,the eamination does more good than harm for both eaminers and eaminees.we must take a correct attitude towards eamination.we should take full advantage of it and avoid its disadvantage.

Two secondary school teachers I remember show how different people can be though engaged in the same profession.
Mrs. Wang, my philosophy teacher, sent us to sleep less than ten minutes when she started talking in class. When a head nodded, she would point at the dozing student and make threatening remarks. She said that she was bored to teach us. Some students in her eyes had no desire to learn. But the other teacher Mr. Li always had bright eyes with a smiling face and encouraging words which showed that he loved Chinese history he was teaching and wanted us to love it too.
When it came to their attitudes to their students, they were different too. After Mrs. Wang finished her day’s lessons she felt that she had finished her job. Once when I asked her a question outside class about a term, she continued with preparation to leave and said that I could bring my question to class next week. Before I knew it she had put her keys into her handbag and walked out of the door. In the history class, however, a question even after the bell would still be given attention to by Mr. Li. He would rush to the board in a last minute attempt to clear up. Often he was seen with a number of students standing outside the classroom, discussing the day’s assignment.
Their methods of teaching were not like as well. Mrs. Wang stuck to the textbook and trained us how to memorize minute facts. However Mr. Li brought in films, maps, slides, tapes, anything that would help us learn. Once the whole class went to see the ’film Lin Zexu’ in order to better understand the history of the Opium War from 1840 to 1842.
Owing to these contrasts, I do not think I can forget either of my past teachers.

How to gain true love? This problem never stops being the main cause of heart-break among the young!
Many young rush among all kinds of 5-minutes dates organized by the so-called single club while some others choose to date on line through, for instance, the Match, one of whose romantically designed ads “I decide to go easy on the lip gloss, as a goodnight kiss is on the cards” once attracted thousands of people longing for love. Unfortunately, true love, usually, can not be easily encountered with by attending a fast-date or by typing in several words to the screen at one side and entering into the screen on the other side. True love is something that you can acquire by not only taking good care of yourself, but communicating properly with the one you love as well.
To acquire true love, you have to first look after you yourself well, or in another word, you should enjoy your single time while you are still there. For example, instead of waiting for the message of the one you meet last night, continue with your hobbies like swimming, cycling or even making dumplings, for waiting for someone or missing someone aimlessly could make your heart fragile while carrying on with your hobbies would surely bring you health and fitness, pleasure and satisfaction, or even allow you to have a good time with your friends. You should know how attractive you are when you are having a full life. Try not to breed a fragile heart, just be happy, satisfied and attractive, all of which will lead a Mr. or Miss Right to your way.
However, only taking care of you yourself is not enough! True love cannot be attained by simply loving yourself. You also have to learn to communicate well with your other half. For example, women are often upset when their partners praise the other ladies’ dresses and regard it as a slur on their own, and are often foolish enough to let the their men see that they are annoyed. And they may even make some spiteful remark about that beautiful dress. This will cause their men not to be willing to tell them anything about the other women again, and before very long, the women will be complaining that their partner is so secretive and never tells them anything, but they seldom realize that they have brought this on themselves. So, on this occasion, what a wise woman should do is learn to control her mood first, communicate more with her partner, and, if necessary, let him get an even more beautiful dress for her. On the other hand, what a wise man should do is also just the same: communicate with her, and try your best to understand her!
Take good care of yourself and communicate properly with the one you love! And only by this means can you expect to possibly gain the true love that you desire!

As is vividly betrayed in the cartoon, a juvenile, with great efforts, is pushing a clock hand forward, because he is curious about his future. An old man, however, is doing his utmost to push the clock hand backward, because he wants to retrospect his old days. Apparently what they do is ultimately futile.
Simple as the picture is, which subtly conveys is profound and thought-provoking. There is little dispute that time is a sovereign gift for all people and no one is expected to manipulate or speed it up. So, attempting a life is filled with no regrets, one should employ his time well, otherwise, a humiliating future will be not far away from us. In addition, the old saying:“Time and tide wait for no man” also highlights the magnitude of cherishing time. Therefore, what we are supposed to do everyday is to make use of every chance to do useful things.
As far as I'm concerned, time invariably treats everyone equally. One can become informed and wise by treasuring time. Mo Yan, for example, who cherishes every minute to think and contemplate, and he has achieved great success in his works. Hence let's keep the aphorism in mind forever, that is: “A young idler,an old beggar”.

one of my friends susie always complains to me about the tense atmosphere in her family. her father used to ban her listening to pop music, which in his opinion is nothing but cultural garbage. what's more, he forced her to listen to the peking opera with him. and she had to pretend to enjoy it a lot in order to please him. at the same time, her mum once in a while read her diary, which she claimed that she did all this just to make sure susie was fine and happy. susie used to quarrel with her parents, but now she keeps silent. once susie confided to me, "the dead silence in the house nearly chokes me. "
all this results from the generation gap. one current belief held by the majority of people is that the disparity in age of more than 3 years will give rise to the problem of generation gap.nowadays, it is a common social phenomenon in china and a hot issue for newspapers, magazines and tv shows. in the discussions, one thing they have all ignored is that the generation gap is unavoidable.
there are numerous reasons why generation gap eists.
first, people grow up in various social circumstances in which they form their unique characters, for the education and social background eert great influence on one's way of thinking and world outlook. that's why susie's father prefers peking opera--the traditional form of arts in china, while susie is a crazy fan of the pop music and rock & roll, which is popular with all teenagers.
another reason is that people change, as they grow older.after years of hard work, our parents surely look forward to a stable and peaceful life. vigor and enthusiasm waned as they age. on the contrary, we're standing at the starting point of our lives. no doubt, we're eager to discover the brand new world opening to us, and long for competition and challenge. when it comes to the decision-making in life, divergence between our parents and us emerges.
as far as i am concerned, the most determinate factor of all is that the generation gap reflects the young's desire to be independent of the old. take my story as an eample. one of the privileges you get from studying in a foreign language school is that you may have an opportunity to be recommended to enter one of the top-ranking universities in china, without taking the entrance eam.well, my parents suggested that i take this opportunity so as to play it safe, for fear that i might perform not well enough in the entrance eam. i can still remember the eager desire from the bottom of my heart to make my own decision, to choose my own way and to be responsible for my own life. without careful consideration, i turned down their sugges-tion, making them worry a lot. after months of intensive study,i, luckily, touched my goal and entered fudan university.
taking into account all the factors, we may draw the conclusion that the generation gap cannot be filled up. but something has to be done to make the domestic wheel spin smoothly.the key is communication. only through hearty communication can we go through the rain and see the colorful rainbow in the clear-blue sky. at the far end of the rainbow, our parents and we can happily go hand in hand.

it was on the morning of 12th, sep. on hearing that an unbelievable catastrophe had happened in new york, i rushed to a news stand and aniously asked for a copy of newspaper, only to be told that they had already been sold out. though i knew the details of the disaster on tv later the day, i still bought a pile of newspapers and read them with gusto. at least to traditional readers like me, newspapers still hold an important position in our heart.
some people regard newspapers as a medium of the past and predict that they will be replaced by tv and the internet in the near future. they point out that the two new media have the advantage of promptness and vividness. through live broadcast of news events, tv viewers can feel that they are on the spot, seeing whats actually happening with their own eyes. as far as im concerned, however, newspapers may provide the readers with factual reports as well as certain viewpoint. when people argue that with the development of the internet, people now have an easier access to news media through pdas, mobile phones and pcs. wherever one wants to know whats happening in the world, he no longer needs to bother searching for a bookstore.instead, he would surf online and find eactly what he wants on a website.
however, there are more people, me included, firmly hold the opinion that newspapers are still indispensable to our life.first of all, newspapers gain us a deeper insights into the events. a well-written report, reasonable and forceful, probing into the core of the topic, provoke our thoughts on such issues as morality, justice, value and so on. while tv feasts our eyes with flash pictures, newspapers enrich our minds with sparkling wits. secondly, though with great potential, the new media are not as popular as newspapers. a retired worker would rather buy an evening paper on his way home, instead of taking pains to learn how to operate a pc. a senior manager would prefer to skip through a wall street daily rather than waste his precious time in front of a tv on the bus set. last but not the least, people like to read newspapers just out of habit. they prefer the lovely smell of a newly printed newspaper to computer screen which makes their heads spin. they want to see words in black and white, and keep them after reading, if necessary.
considering the fact that radios have not been driven out of the market by tv, and book sales not affected by the invention of e-book, i would draw the conclusion that despite the increasing popularity of new media, newspapers still play an important role in peoples life.

Nowadays, more and more people like to travel in their holidays. The other day I read a report about the ways people spend their holidays.
It is reported that in recent yiars several new holiday habits have been developed. Among them, the most interesting one is the growth of the so-called holiday camps. From the report we can see that in 1990,40 percent of people stayed at home for holidays. But now the proportion has reduced to 9 percent. More people go out for fun. The proportion of camping and traveling abroad was increasing steadily, from 10 percent in 1990 to 38 percent in 20xx,and 12 percent in 1990 to 26 percent in 20xx respectively. People enjoy the fresh air, clean Water and green hills when they go camping in the suburbs. In 1990,38 percent people enjoyed going to the seaside while in 20xx only 27 percent prefer to go there. What great changes!
Why did those changes appear?I think there are several reasons.
First,it's because people can afford traveling.
Second, people prefer to pursue a high-quality and colorful life.
Third, their attitudes to relaxation have changed. Less people want to save much money by leading a simple life. In short, people's living standard today has been rising greatly.

Through sports, we can not only develop our physical prowess, but also promote social and emotional skills, and even intellectual skills, which will matter in our future lives substantially. So hope everybody here cherish this opportunity and enjoy it.
At last, best wishes for the success of the sports meeting and best wishes for the good results of our athletes. It is my pleasure to announce the open of the sports meeting. Thank you and good luck!
