為此,當(dāng)你寫感謝信時(shí),應(yīng)這樣寫:“Thank you for your beautiful roses.”(謝謝您送的美麗的玫瑰花。);而不要籠統(tǒng)地寫上“Thank you for your beautiful gift.”(謝謝您送給我的漂亮禮物。)

In most China Universities, the graduates are demanded to write a thesis of a certain length to get the degree. However, this long tradition has been challenged by people, saying that the universities students can not write a thesis independently. They just copy from others. This is a waste of time. So far as I am concerned, the graduates may still need to the thesis to finish their university studies.

First and foremost, writing the thesis is a very good practice for students. It's a good way for students to systemically summarize the knowledge of the four-year studies. Take the English major as an example, writing thesis can broaden the reading scope as well as improve writing skills. What's more, the task is a perfect show of the students' knowledge and progress over the four-year studies. By the thesis, teachers can judge whether a student has reached the level required for graduation. Finally, the writing of the thesis may contribute to the further development of academy. The questions discussed and tackled in the thesis may be helpful for the advance of a certain area.

From the reasons discussed above, it it quite necessary for graduates to write a graduating thesis, which is beneficial to students as well as

  academy.

i was not yet 30 years old and was working as a firefighter in the south brons engine co. 82, probably the worlds most active firehouse at the time. it was warm and sunny, the kind of leisurely sunday that brought etra activity to the neighborhood and to its firefighters. we must have had 15 or 20 calls that day, the worst being a garbage fire in the rear of an abandoned building, which required a hard pull of 600 feet of cotton-jacketed hose.

between alarms i would rush to the company office to read captain grays copy of the sunday new york times. it was late in the afternoon when i finally got to the book review section. as i read it, my blood began to boil. an article blatantly stated what i took to be a calumny -- that william butler yeats, the nobel prize-winning light of the irish literary renaissance, had transcended his irishness and was forever to be known as a universal poet.

there were few things i was more proud of than my irish heritage, and ever since i first picked up a book of his poems from a barracks shelf when i was in the military, yeats had been my favorite irish writer, followed by sean ocasey and james joyce.

my ancestors were irish farmers, fishermen and blue-collar workers, but as far as i can tell, they all had a feeling for literature. it was passed on to my own mother, a telephone operator, who hardly ever sat down without a book in her hands. and at that moment my own fingernails might have been soiled with the soot of the days fires, but i felt as prepared as any trinity don to stand up in the court of public opinion and protest. not only that yeats had lived his life and written his poetry through the very essence of his irish sensibility, but that it was offensive to think irishness -- no matter if it was psychological, social or literary -- was something to be transcended.

my stomach was churning, and i determined not to let an idle minute pass. hey, captain gray. could i use your typewriter? i asked.

the typewriter was so old that i had to use just one finger to type, my strongest one, even though i could type with all ten. i grabbed the first piece of clean paper i could find -- one that had the logo of the fire department of the city of new york across the top -- and, hoping there would be a break in the alarms for 20 minutes or so, wrote out a four-paragraph letter of indignation to the editor of the sunday book review.

throughout his poetry, i postulated, yeats yearned for a messiah to lead ireland out from under the bondage of english rule, and his view of the world and the people in it was fundamentally irish.

just as i addressed the envelope, the final alarm of my tour came in, and as i slid down the long brass pole, i felt unepectedly calm, as if a great rock had been purged from the bottom of my stomach.

i dont know why i felt it my obligation to safeguard the reputation of the worlds greatest poet, at least net to homer and shakespeare, or to inscribe an apologia for irish writing. i just knew that i had to write that letter, in the same way a priest has to pray, or a musician has to play an instrument.

until that point in my life i had not written much of value -- a few poems and short stories, the beginning of a coming-of-age novel. i knew that my writing was anything but refined. like a beginning artist who loves to draw, i understood that the more one draws, or writes, or does anything, the better the end result will be, and so i wrote often to better control my writing skills, to master them. i sent some material to various magazines and reviews but found no one willing to publish me.

it was a special and unepected delight, then, when i learned something id written would finally see print. ironically it wasnt one of my poems or short stories -- it was my letter to the times. i suppose the editor decided to publish it because he was first attracted by the official nature of my stationery (was his staff taking smoke breaks out on the fire escape?), and then by the incongruity of a ghetto firefighters using words like messianism, for in the lines below my letter it was announced that i was a new york city firefighter. id like to think, though, that the editor silently agreed with my thesis.

i remember receiving through the fire departments address about 20 sympathetic and congratulatory letters from professors around the country. these letters made me feel like i was not only a published writer but an opinion maker. it was as if i was suddenly thrust into being someone whose views mattered.

i also received a letter from true magazine and one from the new yorker, asking for an interview. it was the latter that proved momentous, for when an article titled fireman smith appeared in that magazine, i received a telephone call from the editor of a large publishing firm who asked if i might be interested in writing a book about my life.

i had little confidence in my ability to write a whole book, though i did intuit that my work as a firefighter was a worthy subject. and so i wrote report from engine co. 82 in si months, and it went on to sell two million copies and to be translated into 12 languages. in the years that followed, i wrote three more best-sellers, and last year published a memoir, a song for mary: an irish-american memory.

being a writer had been far from my epectations; being a best-selling author was almost unfathomable. how had it happened? i often found myself thinking about it, marveling at it, and my thoughts always came back to that letter to the new york times.

for me, the clearest eplanation is that i had found the subject i was searching for, one i felt so strongly about that the writing was a natural consequence of the passion i felt. i was to feel this same kind of passion when i began writing about firefighters and, later, when writing about my mother. these are subjects that, to me, represent the great values of human life -- decency, honesty and fairness -- subjects that burn within me as i write.

over the years, all five of my children have come to me periodically with one dilemma or another. should i study english or art? should i go out for soccer or basketball? should i take a job with this company or that one?

my answer is always the same, yet they still ask, for reassurance is a good and helpful thing. think about what youre feeling deep down in the pit of your stomach, i tell them, and measure the heat of the fire there, for that is the passion that will flow through your heart. your education and your eperience will guide you toward making a right decision, but your passion will enable you to make a difference in whatever you do.

thats what i learned the day i stood up for irelands greatest poet.

Nowadays, one of the most serious problems China is faced with is brain drain. While shortages of talent trouble many universities and state-owned enterprises, millions of talented people either emigrate to developed countries or work for foreign companies. At the same time, a big crowd of well-educated people who are determined to follow their footsteps take TOEFL or GRE as their passport to the West.

However, people see this phenomenon in different perspectives. Some hold the opinion that China suffers a lot from brain drain. They argue, on the one hand, that brain drain considerably weakens our international competitiveness. On the other hand, they believe that the talent should serve their native country first.

In contrast, others highlight the advantages of international exchange and cooperation. They claim that Chinese youths should go abroad to study and gain more experience. What’s more, the long-term benefits will outweigh losses we suffer now.

Brain drain poses a challenge. China should go all out to attract talented people in order to better compete in the world. For one thing, decent living and working conditions should be offered to specialists. For another, we have to better develop our economy, which is a sure bait for all kinds of talent. (204 words)

There is a famous remark from Abraham Lincoln “Give mesix hours to chop down a tree, and I will spend the first four sharpening theaxe." That's to say, sharpening your knife won't waste your time forcutting your firewood.

If your axe is blunt, it will seriously affect thespeed and efficiency of cutting trees. Even though sharpening the axe beforechopping down a tree takes you sometime, the speed and efficiency of it will beimproved a lot, and you will spend less time cutting down the same tree.Similarly, if we want to succeed, we'd better improve ourselves first. Whatshould we do to achieve success? Many of us have set lofty goals, but we hadbetter start by preparing to confront difficulties, and proceeding with the veryfoundation. Just stop talking and get down to working. With the exception ofperseverance and diligence, it is extremely necessary for us to have someuseful methods.

Like everyone, everyone has his own dreams, and my dreams change with age. But there is a dream that never changes.

My biggest dream is to make our earth healthier. Yang Liwei said in space that the earth is like a water polo, but what color is it not in the sea? In fact, the earth is not what it used to be. These are all for our present technology to blame. Science and technology is a double-edged sword, and its rapid development has both advantages and disadvantages: although it makes us more convenient and faster, we can do a lot of things without leaving home. But it also makes our earth scarred, and the development of science and technology is based on the resources of the earth!

Although the slogan in Shanghai, World Expo is "Better City, better life", many people think the city makes life worse! In cities like Shanghai, the air pollution index is all over the table. Nanjing is also shrouded in fog and haze every day, these are car exhaust and factory black gas. Although the country is now talking about air modification plans, it is only a matter of fact, and there is not much practical action. If we want to radically transform the air, we must strengthen the management of the government and, two, our conscious actions.

Imagine, if our only home is a tree lined, picturesque, cloudless sky, the world, what human beings have created Noah's ark, worried about what the end of the world?!

It was a hot summer season, although it is autumn, but do not feel the autumn chill. . I am full of longing for life on college students, set foot on the train to the land of dreams, and began learning a new career. However, this is the first time, a father with me, travel is no longer lonely fear, only a heart filled with longing!

Different with high school, college students not binding, more slack, usually very little academic day, only just started coming, freshman management is also more stringent, to the earlier study up, despite how reluctant we do not, can still obediently toe the line, from not absent. In those days, now think about it, actually feel quite sweet, quite happy.

Life is very monotonous, one of four quarters, because I was late, to coincide with school dormitory nervous, so on and live with sister school senior, and this for me, there is no

inappropriate, just and classmates from the less, and not so often, I temper this relatively cool, fun loving though, is particularly practical, lack of vitality and passion college.

College life, a great extent improved my self-learning ability. Because the University taught in high school are no longer spoon-fed so as to learn is very boring. And high school teachers teaching methods are quite different, but a lesson taught a lot of knowledge, usually counted as one class of two classes, the kind of attached. So at first not used to. Classroom lectures alone is not enough. This requires the consolidation in the class to practice the knowledge learned in class to be their own and often go to the library to delve into some relevant information, over time, self-learning ability is improved. There is also understood how to use the same time focus on learning to think independently. To learn just is not enough hard at hard study, to learn "method" of doing it. As the old saying that good, delegate to fish than giving the fishing, my purpose here is to learn to "fish", but easier said than done, I changed a good many ways, what are diligent in thinking, the event to understand the problems can be diligent to ask. During the study, the "independent thinking" as their motto, always keep in mind alert. In addition to professional courses, we still have to learn English, Mathematics. In fact, these I like. These non-professional courses are usually together on the two classes, so teachers can also reduce the workload by half. For me, I'm so quiet, always quiet like a person on the line, so little spare time. Students are busy with their own business, so we have very little communication. Only during school breaks only slapstick about.

University of carefree life full of sunshine. Perhaps because of this that feels about right over time, we have a sophomore now blink of an eye, and this semester is nearing an end, think of quite feeling ah! Feel that they are slow however, so far

do not know anything, there is no clear future plans. That the school sister asked me, have not triedShe said to me, "You should take advantage of a period in the university, for obtaining the number of documents, these will find a job after you is very useful, otherwise this will be after you graduate, you'll regret, why did not how how . "I want to do so, so good times, we should not be abandoned on the so give it to off, but should make good use of. No matter how the future, at least now I have to be fair.

Others say the university to learn a lot of things, we have to learn how to get along with others, deal with the communicative relations between people, lots to take part in practical activities,

training to improve their ability to develop their own social. Yes ah, of course, universities are still very much changed my thinking, my view of the world, view of life. While many depressed

through a lot of things fail, but I had never regretted her choice, because after experiencing college life, I am not the same on all, and the high school is an entirely different person, perhaps more mature, perhaps the ways of the world , and short, generally a reborn. I take life at a time when I can to make more rational decisions!

In fact, universities are not very good. The total time in high school before that the University is a paradise to come out from where the person can get paid work, dressed, fed and clothed. Often hear people say college is a large amount to anything, a good university is destined to a lifetime of glory, not when the life of the peasants, and not busy doing farming work, and do not do farm work so hard up. . .

College years are very good, can do so I went to college I found that is not really going on, had been talking about hype of college life not imagined it this good, so simple. . . I think, before,

perhaps too simple own ideas on us. . . In fact, it is most important is that their views and attitude. Many students believe that college is to learn practical knowledge in many gorgeous and not actually learn these things do not know what, that they can not be used to eat, can not be used for work, school chanting just given you, do not study does not test better. Of course, not. We have to realize their own

Was often said to me: what college you should learn well, maybe not after your professional

opportunities for you to find a job, and you learn something casual you may want to use whole life!

Since I entered the university, for the first time that life is worth a lot of things to learn and cherish his own lifetime, and it is the first time such a profound experience. High school time is spent in the books, but now has the most profound insight into the university is the original and the people know how to get along with one of life's a required course, as I said earlier,

relationships are important, and we must learn how to get along with others !

Oh, be they reading junior high school, college and now, as long as you still a student, as long as you were in school, your life is not inevitable, "three-point line" in the hover. Therefore, classroom, bedroom, dining room became my regular haunt. The beginning, would also have a bit of

university life, I hope, for the first time that college life sound just like high school life, is going to be living! Life is dull most of the time already, so time for a long time felt that the days of no novel. Can even be said to be boring! Fortunately, however, the library became a place I often go in the library reading homework, but also very happy happy. Sophomore redistribution about the bedroom, now I have, and their classmates live in together. Living together who share the same bedroom, after so many days to live, we had some mutual understanding, in life and learning will be more dependent on each other, more united! These are the commonplace understanding of life out.

But now when I go over people's eyes back to my freshman life, there has been a different

perception. Now I am more in the future to consider how to find a good job to go into society, but also experienced a variety of interviews to find part-time, in the process I began to reflect on my college life, I considered a qualified studentsI chose the college life rightI am going through it for my future development to help

Perhaps these experiences in some people seem to be very rich, not commonplace wasted, get some honor and encourage the recognition of this is, but I also think so and this has been targeted efforts.

Some people say that university friends will be friends for life, the childish high school faded in the face of a common life experience while also preserving the student's sincere and friendly, ask people how much life the opportunity to have pure friendshipPeople are social animals, but also emotional animals, if ignored the feelings of communication between people will be how sad thing. Handed in different circles with different friends in different experiences produce different inspiration, this is not also a valuable asset is it

Over time, I not only learned the basic disciplines of public knowledge and professional

knowledge, I also made efforts toward a qualitative leap can more quickly master a new technical knowledge, I think it is important for the future . Knowledge in the learning period, the teachers taught, so I appreciate the fun. Around many of my classmates and I, have also established good relations of learning, help each other overcome difficulties. Especially the freshman curriculum design, but also exercise the hands of self and ability to analyze issues and benefit.

I have been pursuing the sublimation of personality, focusing on their behavior. I admire

people who have great personal charm, and always hoped I could be done. After nearly two years of university life, I adhere to the self-reflection and efforts to improve their own personality. In the library, I read some classics and a few books of this perfect personality for their help, more and more recognized for the conduct of a person how important it is related to whether the correct outlook on life and world view. Therefore, no matter under what circumstances, I have to come to moral demands on themselves. Wherever and whenever I have followed the tenets of

self-discipline, and practical to follow it. Students usually love, respect for teachers and helpful. Previously only felt very happy to help others is a virtue. Now I realize the truth, and helpful not only to cast noble character, but will also get a lot of their own interests. Also to help others to help themselves.

Recalling the past year and a half, I am very pleased to have a difficult time in the students who helped them, relative, in my difficulties, my classmates and selfless lent a helping hand. Without their help, I may not know where to go. I realized that, not so much the character and moral conduct of individuals as it is the responsibility of individuals to society. A person living in the world, must assume some responsibility to society, obligations, with the noble character, you can correct understanding of their responsibilities, the contribution to the realization of their value.Social work ability has been greatly improved, university life, I participated in many school activities and did some social practice. Participate in school activities to get to know more students, thus increasing communication with other students and their learning opportunities, training their communication skills, learn other people's strengths, recognize their own shortcomings.

I think, can not predict the future, but at least now I will try, will not let me leave any regrets in college life. Also like all my friends and classmates alike, for their future efforts!
