Chinese New Year is the most important festivity for the Chinese people. It is also called the Spring Festival or the Lunar New Year.

Every year has an animal’s name. These animals are the rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, ram, monkey, rooster, dog and pig. A Chinese legend says that these twelve animals had a race. The first year was named after the rat, the winner. The other eleven years were named after the order in which the animals arrived in the race. The clever rat jumped onto the ox’s back then at the end jumped over the ox’s head to arrive first!

The Chinese believe that a person born in a particular year has some of the characteristics of animal.

On Chinese New Year’s Eve all family members enjoy a big, delicious meal. It is very important for the Chinese to be with their families on this occasion. Fish is always part of the dinner because it represents abundance.

On New Year’s Day all Chinese children wear new clothes with bright colors. Red is considered a lucky color. Parents and relatives give children the traditional New Year’s gift called lucky money. This money is put into bright red and gold envelopes. Fill under the pillow. in the morning of new year , the kid wakes up to see the “l(fā)ucky money”, express that oneself become one year older. Red is a traditional color for festivals, celebrations, weddings and birthdays.

  Good morning, ladies and gentlemen.

Today I would like to talk about current environment situations which you can see all over the world. While we are pursuing better ways of lives, more problems we are also making. Sometimes we only notice a unilateral aspect of the matter while ignoring its various functions. This kind of negligence, however, may cause serious problems that could be devastating.

It is said that one false move may lose the game. This is proved in our daily life obviously. As the economy is growing rapidly day after day, manufacturers are looking for more opportunities to gain numerous profit. To earn more money, one way is to decrease the cost of the products. They move their factories to developing countries which can not only benefit them much more profit than before, but also those countries welcome them since they can help increase the countries’ GDP.

While it seems we can gain a lot from building factories to produce products, the shortcomings of these buildings are becoming obvious. Though at the beginning, those developing countries did gain a lot of profit. As time passes, people living surround the factories deposit industrial waste into the river which directly leads to the influence of human’s lives. Fish died, birds disappeared, people moved, and we couldn’t imagine what would come next. These industries also use lots of resources to carry on their production. Large amounts of carbon dioxide are discharged, we all know the consequence of that, global warming—as one of the most essential environmental problems in the world, is becoming more and more serious currently. That the local government ignored was that these factories damaged their environment without any punishment but reception! They didn’t notice the negative aspect on this investment. What a pity!

In summary, nowadays, businessmen are destroying our motherland—earth for themselves. What should we do in this situation? Ignore them or try to take some actions on it? I believe all of us will choose the latter, right? So just do it, nothing is impossible.

  That’s all. Thank you.

Dear Judges and Friends,

The topic for my speech today is “Festival.” I would like to talk about my favorite festival, the Mid-Autumn Festival.

In China we have several important festivals, such as the Spring Festival, the Lantern Festival, the Dragon-boat Festival and the Mid-Autumn Festival. Among them, I like Mid-Autumn festival best, especially because I live in Xiamen.

In Xiamen, when we celebrate the Mid-Autumn festival, we do not only follow the common practices such as having a big dinner party with our family, eating mooncakes, and appreciating the full moon at night, we also have one unique custom which is only practiced in Xiamen, that is “Bo Bing”.

“Bo Bing” is a very interesting game that almost all Xiamen people play during this festival. Usually family members or close friends get together around a table with a big round bowl in the middle and six dices in the bowl. We take turns to throw the dices into the bowl. We will get different prizes accroding to the different ways the dices show their upper sides. Everyone is likely to become the champion or “Zhuangyuan” for the year. There is an element of luck and equal opportunity in this game. So people usually get excited while playing. Also, the game gives very pleasant sounds. The tinkling made by the dices falling into the bowl is pleasant, people’s laughing, cheering and applauding for the big prizes they’ve won is pleasant. All this adds greatly to the joyful atmosphere of this festival. As a kid, of course I also like the material prizes I get from the game, such as a candy or a cake.

In this year’s Mid-Autumn Festival, my family invited our foreign friends to come to our home to celebrate the Festival together. They have two children who are younger than me. While our parents were making Jiaozi together, we kids played “Bo Bing”. We bought quite some gifts to share with our guests as their prizes. They enjoyed the game and our get-together very much.

The literal translation of “Bo Bing” is “mooncake gambling.” But actually it is not gambling, at least our family never plays it that way. For us, it is more an occasion of happy sharing and getting-together. This is why Xiamen’s Mid-Autumn Festival has become my favorite festival in the year.

  Thank you very much!

Good afternoon, dear teachers and friends!

I m happy to make a speech here. Thank you for your coming. Now, the topic for my speech today is “Western Festivals.” I would like to talk about Christmas.

Christmas is originally a Christian festival, as you can see from the formation of this word, “Christ-mas.” The first part of the word refers to Jesus Christ, and the second part “mas” comes from the word “mass,” referring to a main religious ceremony in some Christian churches. At first, it was celebrated for the birth of Jesus Christ. Nowadays, although some churches still observe this festival for its religious reason, for most people, including Chinese people, Christmas has already become a day of secular celebrations, when people exchange greetings and gifts. However, it is still a biggest festival in the West. It is as important to the Westerners as the Spring Festival is to the Chinese people.

Christmas day is on the 25th of December, and Christmas Eve is of course the evening of the previous day, the 24th December.

Christmas holiday usually lasts for two weeks, during which most schools have a Christmas break. Many families put the Christmas tree in their house, and hang many decorations on the tree. Under the tree, they usually place many Christmas presents. Giving out presents and receiving presents are what kids like best about this festival.

On Christmas Eve, kids would put stockings at the end of their bed, wishing the Santa Claus would come and give them presents.

As to the tradition of giving and receiving presents in Christmas, I think it has something to do with the nativity story. In the nativity story, on the birthday of baby Jesus, there was a bright star shining in the East. There were three kings in the East who saw the star, and they followed the star all the way to Bethlehem where the star stopped. They came to a manger where baby Jesus was lying. They worshiped the little baby and gave him presents. I think this is a beautiful story. It shows a spirit of sharing and love.

I like Christmas for the presents kids will receive and for its lovely story.

  Thank you very much!

Dear school leaders, teachers and dear students

  Good morning, everyone!

Quietly look back on the past 20xx Year, looking forward to 20xx The arrival of the year. May we sail in happiness and set sail in happiness with the New Years bell ringing!

Tao Yuanming, a poet of the Eastern Jin Dynasty, once said: "The prime of life does not come again, and it is hard to get up early again.". "Yuan" means the beginning of everything. The word "Dan" means the morning sun rising on the sparkling sea. When the firecracker sounds, people will welcome the new year with vigorous vigor and fighting spirit.

The lanterns are decorated and the jade buildings are decorated. During the Spring Festival, peoples smiling faces are everywhere. Grasping the title of "Top Ranking" to welcome the joy of the whole family. At this time of life, it is an honor and a challenge. We should have ideals, pursuits, goals, be industrious, and go forward on a down-to-earth basis. Only then can we be worthy of the painstaking efforts of Huacai Youth and our parents. Smart people will check yesterday, seize today and plan for tomorrow; Stupid people will lament yesterday, squander today and dream of tomorrow.

20xx Year is a new beginning and a new future. We should have a blameless yesterday, a fruitful today, and a promising tomorrow!

  thank you.

Dear teachers and students

  hello everyone!

Accompanied by the joy of harvest, full of heroic feelings of striving. We sent away the fruitfulxx At the same time, we welcome the promisingxx Years.

On the occasion of bidding farewell to the old and ushering in the new year, on behalf of the student cadres of the student union departments of the school, I would like to extend holiday greetings and New Years greetings to all teachers, students and parents! I wish everyone a happy New Year, progress in study, good health and good luck in everything.

I believe that when screwed together, it is an electric light and a steel rope; Together, it is a spark, the whole sun; Standing in one place is a kind of faith and a kind of spirit. "The waves behind the Yangtze River push the waves ahead, and the war drums urge the fight". We are firm in confidence, undaunted by difficulties, united with one heart, and constantly striving for self-improvement. We think and use our strength to break through any storm with strong vitality.

Dear studentsxx The sail of the year has been lifted, and a beautiful growth ring is about to appear in front of us. In the new year, we have a lot of things to do. Lets work together to start a good situation, take a good step, seize the opportunities, be determined to inspire, unite, meet new challenges with a new attitude, and write a new chapter of the pioneer with thick colors.

The train of time has taken us to a new station -xx The year is about to pass. Then, we will take the New Years train to set out on time and move towards our future together!

As we bid farewell to the old and usher in the new, we are excited to recall the past year. In this year, we have enjoyed, dreamed and worked together. We are glad that we have not wasted this year, and we are happy that we have grown up healthily in this year. Maybe there will be some regrets, but we will take these regrets as our valuable experience and wealth in life, because we believe that we will do better!

The year starts again and everything is renewed. We are one year older. We are no longer naughty children who dont understand the world. The cultivation of teachers and the watering of knowledge have enabled us to have our own thoughts and lofty ideals. In this promising new year, we will work hard to live up to the instructions of teachers and parents, and live up to this beautiful era. Even if we fall down, we will get up again and never lose heart. We are like bright flowers, which will bloom more brightly in the new year. I believe that we will be proud of ourselves and believe that the new year will be even better!

  thank you.

So many people underestimate the power and importance of a smile, that simple little facial expression characterized by an upward curving of the corners of the mouth. A smile has many meanings: pleasure, friendliness, welcome, amusement, and many more; and it is part of a universal body language that doesn’t need any extra interpretation. Plus a smile, with all its simplcity and beauty, can be a very important factor in many aspects of our lives: You fall in love with a new country you visit because its people greet you with a welcoming smile everywhere you go; other countries you just don’t like even though they might have more history, nature, entertainment and whatnot because their people don’t seem so friendly or accepting.

You feel like buying from a certain store when the vendor welcomes you in with a smile, sometimes even if you wouldn’t intially have bought anything; and in other stores, even though they have exactly what you need or better, you decide to walk away because the vendor doesn’t look welcoming at all.

You want to give a waiter a good tip when he serves you with a smile, even if the food turns out not that good; on the other hand, sometimes you’ll have some of the best food ever, but you won’t feel like giving the waiter a tip, even if you do, because he was grumpy. More and more examples from our everyday life show how much a simple smile can change everything. Forever engraved in my mind will be the smiling faces of the people of Thailand, the friendly pizza delivery boy, the welcoming supermarket vendor, the nice cashier at the bank, …etc.

It is these smiles that keep me wanting to go back, and that keep us all wanting to go back; looking at it from another view, if we break it down using business sense, a smile is one of the most effective means to generate sales and develop customer loyalty. On top of all that, a smile is a very simple and easy thing to do, so it amazes why no one bothers to do it, it not only makes the person in front of you better, but it also makes you feel better as well, and I’m not making this up, it has been psychologically proven. Personally, I’d like to see more smiling faces in this world; in the airports when I enter a new country, in companies, government agencies, restaurants, hotels, banks, everywhere; and I think it is up to governments to campaign about this, and even make it obligatory in certain important places like airports, hospitals, hotels…etc.

  Let’s all simply smile.
