Sundays,I walk to the supermarket. Mother hands me the grocery list and puts money in my pocket,hoping it will be enough. She’s had a hard day,and I’ve had a hard week. Nothing out of the ordinary happens when I get to the store. I grab the bread,some milk,and other things on the list. As I turn to head out,I see a beautiful dress in the window. I turn away,bitter that I could never own such a dress.
Outside,I cannot stop thinking about that pretty dress. It’s not fair that I can never have what I want. I work so hard to help my family and yet I get noting in return. Just another list to do. In my anger,I fail to realize the apples are rolling across the road. Suddenly,I see a pair of hands,offering me an apple. Looking up, I see the tanned face of this stranger. His clothes are mismatched,borrowed or stolen. But his eyes are soft and kind.
"Thanks,"I say. No other words are spoken as he continues to help me. I tell him"thank you" one more time and am on my way because I have many other things to finish.Suddenly,he says,"have a good day,ma’am." (www.gymyzhishaji.com)And then he gives me the biggest smile I have ever seen. Right then,he looks years younger-----and I feel a fool.
Look at me,feeling sorry for myself because I don’t get what I want! Do I think other are in the same boat,or worse? There are worse things than not having a beautiful dress.
My mother will hand me the list today. I will make the same journey and probably see something I want but cannot have. But before I start to feel sorry for myself,I will remember the kind stranger with the big smile,and I will grab the last item,and check out.
譯文：
每個(gè)周日，我都要走路去超市，媽媽給我食品清單并把錢放到我的口袋里，希望這些錢夠了。媽媽的生活艱難又辛苦，我的周末疲憊又忙碌。當(dāng)我到達(dá)商店時(shí)，同往常一樣，并沒有什么出乎意料的事情發(fā)生。我拿了面包，一些牛奶，和清單上的其他東西，當(dāng)我轉(zhuǎn)身付賬時(shí)，我在商場(chǎng)的櫥窗里看見了一條漂亮的裙子，我立刻轉(zhuǎn)身離開，令我痛苦的是，我從來(lái)不能擁有這樣的一條裙子。
出門后，我仍舊對(duì)那條裙子耿耿于懷。我從來(lái)都不能擁有我想要的，這不公平！我那么努力的幫家里人做事，可到頭來(lái)卻沒有得到任何回報(bào)，換來(lái)的只是一張又一張待完成的購(gòu)物清單。我正憤懣不平之際，竟沒有意識(shí)到蘋果從袋子里掉了出來(lái)并滾到了馬路邊，我跑過去想要撿起來(lái)。突然，我看見一雙手拿了蘋果給我。抬頭看去，我看到了一張曬得黝黑的陌生人的臉，他的衣服破舊不堪，與現(xiàn)在的時(shí)節(jié)極不相襯，可能是借來(lái)的或偷來(lái)的吧�？伤难凵駞s是如此的友善柔和，沒有一點(diǎn)世俗的沾染。
"謝謝",我說(shuō)。當(dāng)他繼續(xù)幫我時(shí)我沒有再說(shuō)其他的。拿好蘋果后，我再一次對(duì)他說(shuō)了"謝謝".然后準(zhǔn)備離開，因?yàn)槲疫�有許多事情要完成。突然，他說(shuō)："女士，祝你有美好的一天！"然后他給了我一個(gè)我從未見過的大大的微笑。那時(shí)候，他看上去年輕的許多，滿帶著笑容像個(gè)孩子。
——而我覺得自己像個(gè)傻子。
看看我自己，因?yàn)椴荒艿玫轿蚁胍亩械骄趩�，可我有沒有想過可能有些人和我處境相同，或許更壞？世界上還有很多比不能擁有一條漂亮的裙子更糟糕的事情。
媽媽今天還會(huì)給我清單，而我還會(huì)路過相同的地方并且還有可能看見一些我想要但不能擁有的東西，但在我想要擁有它們之前，我開始反思自己。我將會(huì)記得那個(gè)親切的擁有大大的微笑的陌生人，然后我會(huì)拿好最后一件物品，買單出門。
譯者感悟：我們會(huì)為自己的出身，外貌，遭遇等等許多不盡人意的事情感到自卑，不甘，憤怒，到最后被冷漠蒙蔽了雙眼，失去對(duì)生活的熱情。世界是這樣艱險(xiǎn)，運(yùn)氣又是如此調(diào)皮，好在這世上還有這么多動(dòng)人的故事。愿我們每個(gè)人的心永遠(yuǎn)善良純凈，溫暖如初。
